Wild and Rooted w/ WA-BLOC
We’re excited to partner with WA-BLOC’s Freedom School at Emerson Elementary this summer to offer Wild & Rooted, a nature-based enrichment class designed for 2nd–3rd grade students.
Each week, students will spend time outdoors engaging in hands-on activities that build a positive sense of self, strengthen social-emotional skills, and deepen their connection to the natural world. From exploring local plants and creating nature art to practicing mindfulness and team-building games, this 5-week program nurtures confidence, curiosity, and care for the environment.
If your child is enrolled in Freedom School, we’d love for them to join us for Wild & Rooted—an opportunity to grow, play, and connect with themselves, their peers, and the land around them.

Braided Seeds Community Day: Tulip Trip
Braided Seeds is excited about our next upcoming community day trip to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival! We'll be visiting the Tulip Valley Farm with the opportunity to explore the 30-acre property, learn about the science of tulip farming, pick our own tulips, and have lots of photo opportunities. Additionally, there will be micro-mini highland cows and other farm animals. BIPOC youth, families, and individuals of all ages are welcome.

2025 BIPOC Wilderness First Aid and CPR Course
Braided Seeds and Washington Trails Association are excited to sponsor an affordable BIPOC Wilderness First Aid course. We recognize that there is a lack of trainings that center Black, Indigenous and People of Color and look forward to having this opportunity available to help build community and relationships in the outdoors. We are offering this course at a reduced rate of $40 (normally $250+) and this 3-day training will be led by Backcountry Pulse. Lunch and refreshments will be provided for participants.

Black Youth Vision Retreat
Braided Seeds is super excited to start the year off youth ages 10-17 who want to connect with the outdoors and community while casting vision and setting goals for their year during an overnight campout. Participants will be invited to consider, how do you want to show up this year as a student, friend, family member, and human? Students will also be invited to create personal vision boards for the year and take risks as we head to Hurricane Ridge to go snowshoeing. Registration closes 12/23. A virtual parent information meeting will happen Monday, December 30 at 6:30pm.

Food Justice w/ WA-BLOC
We’re excited to partner with WA-BLOC’s Freedom School at Emerson Elementary this summer to offer a special enrichment class focused on Food Justice!
Each Tuesday, students will dig into where our food comes from, explore cultural food traditions, and learn how communities are reclaiming access to land and nourishment. Through storytelling, hands-on activities, and plenty of tasting, youth will connect with their roots—and each other.
If your child is enrolled in Freedom School, we’d love to have them join us! Sign them up for our Tuesday Food Justice enrichment class and help them grow their curiosity, confidence, and connection through food.

Christmas Creek Middle School Camp Out w/ EYFO
EYFO Scholars! Before heading back to school, embrace one more opportunity to connect with your friends and the outdoors through this youth-led camping trip! You will be empowered to pitch your own tent, navigate your way up a trail, read the river and the stars, lead games, and help prepare camp meals.
The cost of this trip is $20.00.
A packing list and parent information session (virtual) will be sent out at the end of July.

Youth Rest Retreat in the North Cascades
What would it have looked like if you had learned the importance of rest and self-care at an early age? This rest retreat will center Black youth 11-14 years old as we venture into the North Cascades to reflect, practice mindfulness, and connect with the outdoors through games, art and team building activities. We will be staying in European-style lodges. at the North Cascade Institute. All meals and snacks are provided. Departure from South Seattle.

Intro to Mountain Biking with Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance
Join us for a 3-part Intro to Mountain Biking series! Learn the basics of bike handling through games and drills, building up to riding trails at Cheasty Park, Seattle's only mountain bike specific trail system!
When: July 18, 20, and 25 from 5pm to 7pm at Cheasty Greenspace, 4384 Cheasty Blvd S.
Age eligibility: 10 to 14 year old; must be able to ride a bike :)
All gear (bikes, helmets, safety pads), plus snacks, and water will be provided.
Intro to Gardening w/ WA-BLOC
We are excited to get our hands in dirt with WA-BLOC’s Freedom School at Emerson Elementary School this summer. If your child is enrolled, please sign them up for our enrichment class on Tuesdays.

Intro to Kayaking and Water Safety
Cultivating a connection with water doesn’t always occur naturally. Sometimes confidence comes in the context of community and being resourced with skills and knowledge. This is an entry-level free event for youth ages 12-17. All youth participants will receive a free fitted life vest through Washington State Parks’ Paddle Safe WA Program.
Drop off and pick up at Dash Point State Park.
Youth should come with lunch. Snacks and water will be provided.
Friday Enrichment w/ EYFO: Outdoor Reclamation Trips
A connection to the natural world is your child’s to claim. As a part of EYFO’s 8-week Summer Leadership Institute, we are facilitating weekly field trips that will allow your child the chance to experience safety, adventure and wonder in the outdoors. Each week will have something new in store, from tide pooling, to kayaking, to hiking, to farming. There are only 10 slots available for this class. Sign your child up below.
